As you prepare your children for Trick or Treating today, I would like to remind us that today is a special day in the church calendar. Last year marked the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther nailing his 95 theses to the church doors in Wittenburg on October 31, 1517.
So, today, we celebrate the 501st anniversary of this event! Now, Luther probably never dreamed of what his hammer and nail would do for the church, but God used this act and many others around the continent of Europe to reform His church.
If you are curious as to how Luther played a role in the Reformation so many years ago, I can recommend one book that has been both informative and fun to read for me. “Here I Stand” by Roland Bainton is a great biography of Martin Luther. It’s an easier read than most biographies as it doesn’t get too technical. To me, it read like more of a story about Luther than that of a documentary of his life. Although you will get to know about Luther’s life in pretty good detail!
However, since today is Halloween as well, we need a little fun in our lives! And what better way than to watch Charlie Brown! Here is Linus “quoting” Luther at the Diet of Worms (Ok, Ok, it’s not actually Linus saying this, but it’s still fun!).
