Let me be the first to say that this book was quite the read. “Three Spiritual Classics in One Volume: The Knowledge of the Holy, The Pursuit of God, God’s Pursuit of Man” by A.W. Tozer is a 471-page read. However, don’t let the page number fool you. Tozer wrote in such a simple way that this 471-page book read more like a 200-page book.

What took me so long to read this book then? Well, when I began reading it it was a book I wanted to review. But, once I was 25 pages in I knew I had to slow down and allow Tozer’s masterpieces to speak into my life. So, I slowed my pace down tremendously. Boy, what a great choice that was!

Each of these three works has been published in the past as individual books. In fact, I have read “The Knowledge of the Holy” twice in the past 5 years. Once for fun and the second time for school. This was my introduction to Tozer. I learned so much about the character of God and grew not only in my understanding of God but also more in love with my God! Each attribute that Tozer highlighted is very much rooted in Scripture.

The second and third works in this three-in-one volume were books I’d never read before. “The Pursuit of God” and “God’s Pursuit of Man” were addicting reads as well. I found myself being sucked into the vortex of Tozer’s beautiful language and description of strong Biblical truths. Originally, I thought it odd to place “The Pursuit of God” before “God’s Pursuit of Man” since biblically it was God who pursued mankind dead in sin by sending His Son. But, as I read “The Pursuit of God” it made sense that it came after “The Knowledge of the Holy” because I found myself longing to pursue after the God Tozer had written about in “The Knowledge of the Holy.”

If you want to grow in your knowledge and understanding of God and how He relates to you, I strongly recommend this three-in-one volume! Don’t worry if you’ve not been to Bible College to study theology before. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the Bible completely through yet. Pick up a copy of Tozer’s “Three Spiritual Classics in One Volume” and learn from his wisdom, insight, and teaching grounded in the Word of God.

  1. I have read the first two but I don’t think I ever made it to the last one. I’m not sure why, because I, too enjoy his writing. It has been a long time since I read them. I should probably get the 3 volume set and start over…and I don’t have a college decree and I found them interesting, inspirational, and easy to understand.
A side note: Thank you for challenging me in earlier posts on memorization of scripture. I really didn’t think I could handle full passages. But I walk with my Mom most mornings and decided I would use the time for memory work. I’ve worked on 2 passages this summer and have been thoroughly blessed at how God has used this hiding of His word in my heart in my life. Thank you.
