Yesterday’s Hymn of the Day: Psalm 51 (Wisdom in the Secret Heart) was not really a hymn, but more of a personal song of confession one could use to both worship God and reflect on our heart before God. Today, we look at a hymn. A hymn that is well-known. In fact, you probably sang it at Easter!
This might help with some background knowledge on this great hymn:
This hymn is a declaration of praise, but it’s also much more than that. The words both declare the majesty of Christ and task us with making that majesty known to all. Like many hymns describing the glory of God and the hope that one day all people will see that glory, this hymn alludes to Philippians 2:9-11: “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” We long for this day and declare our hope in its arrival in the text of this hymn. –Hymnary.org
